Hey everyone! In this article, I will be doing a Lift Genie Tape Review! This company was kind enough to send me a few rolls of their tape, free of charge, to test and review. However, as we always do here at fullaffectfitness.com, I will be doing a 100% honest review of their product for your purchase decision!
I will be providing you with an overview of the product, a rating on its durability, performance and appearance, as well as my concluding remarks!
Without further ado, let’s discuss what this product is all about!
The Lift Genie tape is all about giving support to your thumbs with the goal of preventing/reducing damage/pain from the ever so popular hook grip. I noticed that this tape also helps secure your Hook Grip even more!
The product comes just like any roll of tape, only it is much wider. The width is perfect for ensuring you get maximal coverage for as little tape use as possible! The stretchy material is ideal for flexing where you need the tape to cover, while still being rigid enough to protect your thumbs!
Let’s see how durable this product is!
When applying enough of the tape and covering my thumb from top to bottom, the tape was secured and held in place when it got into being used! Following the initial shift of the tape from the first use, it did not move. On top of that, the tape doesn’t wear out. You can continue using the same application of tape without having to worry about it coming off.
I used it for warm-up sets and 4 working sets with zero problems. This allows me to express with confidence that I believe this tape would be able to last multiple sets from numerous exercises without the need for reapplication!
So what would I rate the Lift Genie tape when it comes to durability? I have to give it a 10! The tape is the perfect balance between stretchy/malleable and rugged to ensure it stays in place and doesn’t wear out!
What’s next? Oh ya… let’s see how this tape performs!
The real reason why any individual purchases a product is to solve a problem that they have. So what does the Lift Genie tape solve? Well… quite honestly, anyone who has used hook grip with bare hands knows how painful it can be!
The bar pressing with all its load against your unsupported thumbs is not a comfortable feeling. While this tape doesn’t completely alleviate that pain, it certainly does help make it tolerable.
I’m not going to lie, when I first tried this product, I was nervous as it wasn’t functioning how I had anticipated it to. However, after doing some research on how to properly apply weightlifting tape, it became apparent that this product was great when I actually used it properly!
The application of this tape not only provides a barrier around your thumb for the bar to press against, however, it also adds support by making your thumb more rigid, thus, giving more overall stability for your grip.
When you combine this performance with the quality construction of the product, you get one awesome piece of gear! The perfect combination of easy to apply and great performance!
So what do I rate this product? I give it an overall rating of 9/10. The only area of improvement I can think of would be for the tape to be a little thicker for even more support. However, the way it is now isn’t necessarily a bad thing as it is very sleek and not bulky at all!
When I first saw these rolls of tape, I was very impressed with how they were able to take such a simple product and add a touch of pop to them! They have done this through their vibrant colours and genie logo!
You can also order custom rolls and put your own logo on them! I would say this is perfect for any gym owner who wants to portray their brand! If you have a logo you would like put on your tape, let me know in the comment as I am very interested to see the kinds of ideas/applications you guys have for this!
My overall rating of the design is an 8/10. It’s simple and pops. However, I feel like there is still room for more creativity!
To conclude, there is no option that will totally alleviate all the pain that comes with securing your grasp on the barbell through hook grip. However, the Lift Genie tape is a low profile option that helps in a very noticeable way. In addition to this, the product is not very expensive considering how long a roll can last.
