What is Meal Prepping About?
If you’re reading this article it means you are looking for more information on meal prepping, this is great because meal prepping is awesome! Within this article I will be answering your question, what is meal prepping about? I will make sure to keep this article concise and to the point while giving you the information you need to help you get started!
Within this article, I will be giving you an explanation of meal prepping, its benefits, and how you can implement it so you can benefit from it! Without further ado, let’s learn what meal prepping is all about!
Meal Prepping Explained:
Meal prepping is when you make meals ahead of time so they are ready to go as the days within the week unfold. How people go about doing this will be different for everyone, however, the concept of it is the same and will have the same core benefits.
To break down the process into the basics, it would look something like this. You pick a day or two of the week to prep your meals, taking anywhere from 1-2.5 hours, then storing them so they are ready for you to eat when needed. I go much more in depth about this in my article “Meal Prepping How To”.
Meal prepping has many benefits including helping you stay on track, having quality food ready to eat, as well as building good habits and discipline. All of this leads to consistency which is what I would say the single most important thing to achieving your goals and seeing results is! Allow me to go into a bit more detail on how these benefits are achieved below!
Benefits of Meal Prepping:
Meal prepping has many benefits, I touched on some of the main ones above. We all have busy lifestyles, this can often times makes it difficult to stay on track with our nutrition. However, if we had quality meals ready and at our disposal, this would be great for consistency and getting in the nutrition we need! The key to this is the quality portion, anyone could buy a dozen donuts and throw them in some tuppaware, however, this is not the quality we’re looking for in our nutrition. When we have a plan to help us stay on track, and we stick to this plan, it creates good habits as well as discipline. Which is a key skill to life as well!
To tie this all in together, if I had to wrap the benefits of meal prepping up into one “main idea”, it would be the immense help in staying consistent with your nutrition. After all, you can’t expect to see the results you’re looking for if you’re not staying consistent with the aspects required for you to achieve your goal(s)!
Implementing Meal Prepping:
There are many things to consider with meal prep, which is why I urge you to consider taking a look at my “Meal Prepping How To” article as I go into much more detail there, then I can within this article. However, below I will give you what I consider to be the three main points to help you get started with meal prepping:
- Knowing Your Goal (This will set you in the right direction to help you get started with meal prepping)
- Knowing What You Need For That Goal (This will get you one step closer to your end goal by starting to think about what you will actually be prepping)
- Prepping & The Logistics – (This is where the magic happens! You actually get to prepare your meals, you’ll also need to ensure you will have the means to eat them)

Thank you for this, I never really considered how meal prepping can help me not only with convenience on a day to day basis, but also with my health and ensuring that my family gets the right nutrition. Most days I prepare my meals from scratch from start to finish but then there are some days where I am just finished by the time I have to cook something so I get lazy and buy takeout instead. It doesn’t happen often but I can see where meal prepping would ensure that I good something healthy and nutritious for my family on a consistent basis.
I do already do meal prepping for my morning smoothies in that I buy my fruit once a week, chop it up and freeze it in separate containers for each day of the week and it really is so much easier to grab it and blend it.
I also cook a pot of rice every 2 weeks and freeze it into portions which is so easy since I can just defrost and warm it when I need it and it takes the pressure off. I will need to look at how I can do more meal prepping to make cooking meals easier.
Hi Lynne, yes meal prepping is great! Although I haven’t done it for a whole family before, I can see it being beneficial for families as well when needed. Although the occasional takeout doesn’t hurt, haha. It sounds like you have it all figured out for your morning smoothies, and having some rice ready to go doesn’t hurt either!
